Queenstown & Surrounds

The Queenstown area has something for everyone, from adrenaline-packed adventures to wineries, nature walks and spas, and we experienced all of these things.

We did some wine-tasting at the wineries of the Cromwell area, our favorite being Mt Difficulty wines with its wonderful views. While in Cromwell we also visited the Cromwell heritage precinct, a village dating back to the gold rush of the 1860’s.

We also stopped into Arrowtown, another gold rush village, for some shopping and coffee.

The drive along Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown to Glenorchy had spectacular scenery. Once in Glenorchy we headed to the much photographed pier.

View back towards The Remarkables mountain range.

Wilson’s Bay stop along the route to Glenorchy.

Views for days!

Clarity of the water was out of this world.

In Queenstown we took the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak, where we raced each other on the Luge tracks.

I feel the need…. the need for speed!

Slow and steady.

Afterwards we went on the Shotover Jet, which races through the Shotover River Canyons at up to 90km/hr.

Carving our way through the canyon’s!!!

360 degree turns thrown in for fun!

After all that adrenaline we relaxed at the Onsen Hot Pools, where we had our own pool overlooking the Shotover River at sunset.

Onsen Hot Pools…best way to end any day! Wine and ice-cream.

And who cannot go to Queenstown without a legendary Fergburger? Each time we passed this burger joint, the line was down the street, with minimum 30-minute wait for a burger!

So many burgers going out…. and it was only 10am!

Chicken something something… can’t remember it’s name but it was tasty!

Next stop Milford Sound!!!!!
